ROBERT BATEMAN IN RUSSIA

A retrospective show of 50 of world-renowned Robert Bateman’s original paintings is traveling by invitation to St. Petersburg this fall for an October 8th grand opening at the State Russia Museum.  Canada’s ambassador to Russia, His Excellency Ralph Lysyshyn, will be in attendance.

The art has been carefully selected from private owners, North American art institutions and Bateman’s own collection and represents an eloquent cross section of this Canadian artist’s prodigious and eclectic output.  The works featured in Robert Bateman in Russia range from 1966 to date.  Bateman, who will be 80 in 2010, painted 3 new pieces especially for the opening, one of which is an imposing brown bear.  “I couldn’t be showcased in such a prestigious international venue without attempting to pay homage to Russia’s symbol,” said Bateman.

The show will appear in three other Russian art museums - in Ivanovo, Tula and at the Tsarystyno Palace in Moscow between October and August of 2010, and has been mounted as a co-operative effort between the Federation of International Art and Education in Bethesda, MD, Bateman and the Russian venues.
